Yesterday after I got off work, Jeremy & I went down to Ben's to visit with the family. Mom & Dad, Barb, Grandma, Ben, Cari, Jason, Bruce, Leah, and all the nieces and nephews were there.
We had a nice brunch and afterward I played a grueling game of UNO with Katie, Alex & Ryan (they were a team), Dad & Marcus (they also were a team, Dad was teaching Marcus how to play) and Megan. We accidentally played it wrong and when we couldn't play a card from our hand kept drawing cards until we could, which made most of us have about 20 cards in our hand at all times. We finally set a time limit and Megan & Dad winning, sort of. (they somehow ended up being a team at the end when Marcus jumped ship and started playing with Alex & Ryan). Anyway, the game lasted about two hours and all of us at one time had to take a potty break. Anyway, I had a great time, it's been a long time since I laughed so hard.
We left Ben's at about 2 pm. On the way home Jeremy told me that he hadn't been feeling well the whole time we were there, but didn't tell me because I was having such a good time. I called the doctor's office and asked if we could get in to see his doctor still that afternoon. We made an appointment for 3:30. Before we even got back to Ontonagon, they called us back and said when the doctor found out he was in so much pain, to go straight to the ER, because they couldn't manage that from the clinic and would send him to the ER anyway. So we went straight to the ER. The ER was busy right after we got there, two other guys came in. One was a prisoner from the jail the other someone who was having severe mental health issues. Anyway, both were being guarded by law enforcement and they took up a lot of the one doctor an one nurse's time. Which was fine with us because they were both loud and acting violent at times. (It's a VERY small ER, there's no way privacy is complete.) Anyway, Jeremy's pain was managed and they did stop by from time to time with updates of lab results.
So the doctor did take time and sit down with us and we didn't feel neglected when we had his attention. He said that in the 34 years that he's been a doctor he's never seen the doses of some of the meds that Jeremy is one being used. Also, he's never taken care of someone with all the issues that Jeremy has (diabetes, diabetic neuropathy, heart valve replacement due to birth defect, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney failure (first stage), asthma, ptsd, bi-polar, schizophrenia, severe depression, sleep apnea, there's a few more, can't think of them off the top of my head). Said that most of the time the Jeremy come into the ER he's going to be sent out to Wausau simply because of the complexity of the mix of diseases he has.
Jeremy is having trouble with his electrolytes and will need to be hospitalized for at least two days, probably three. Will keep everyone updated.
