Good Morning Everyone!
Today we are only expecting one doctor to come see him, the hospitalist, the doctor who is responsible for Jeremy's overall health.
Yesterday we got clearance from the two surgeons to go home tomorrow if the hospitalist says everything else is good to go.
So here's what we're waiting on now. His pt/inr number to be where he's comfortable with sending him home. Pt/inr is a blood clotting test. Jeremy's blood is kept thinner than most people's because he has the artificial aortic heart valve. It needs to be kept thinner so the blood doesn't stick to it, form a clot then move thru his blood, that could cause a host of other trouble. So typically when Jeremy's at home we test his pt/inr at home on a tester similar to his blood glucose meter. When he's at home the cardiologist's goal pt/inr is 2.5. If it's not that his coumadin dose is changed to get to that goal. There's are other things that changes the number besides his coumadin dose. Diet (basically any dark green produce), vitamins and suppliments, and his overall health (whether he has infections, a virus etc.) also contribute to the pt/inr.
Saturday when Jeremy had the surgery his pt/inr was 1.7. Today after trying to adjust the number he's only up to 2.05. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what it was Tuesday but I think it was 2.0. I just know that the number didn't move as much today as it has in the last few days. So the nurse came in this morning and said, don't be surprised if the doctor decides to keep you one more day because this isn't moving as fast as they would like it to. With everything else that Jeremy has going on in his body, it might be best to keep him another day. She gave us the impression that it's 50/50 right now if we go home. It all depends on how comfortable the doctor is.
Okay, so I'm hoping this is like yesterday as soon as I hit the send button we will have an update.
