                                                           Winter Storm Watch 


... Winter Storm Watch in effect from late tonight through
Thursday evening... 

The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from late tonight through
Thursday evening. 

Hazardous weather... 

* moderate to heavy lake effect snow showers will develop overnight
   tonight and continue through Thursday evening. Total snow
   accumulations exceeding 6 inches are possible through Thursday
   evening... with highest amounts across the higher terrain.

* In addition... wind gusts up to 40 mph near the Lake Superior
   shoreline beginning early Thursday morning will cause blowing snow
   and sharply reduced visibility in open areas. The northern extent
   of the Keweenaw peninsula could see wind gusts up to 50 mph during
   this time.

Impacts... 

* roads will become snow covered and slippery.

* High winds will create blowing snow which could lead to white out
   conditions... making travel hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... 

* a Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
   snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
