 Lake Effect Snow Warning 



... Lake effect snow warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to

1 PM EST Sunday... 



The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a lake

 
effect snow warning for heavy lake effect snow and blowing snow...

 
which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM EST Sunday. The

 
lake effect snow watch is no longer in effect.

 


Hazardous weather... 

 


* lake effect snow will develop this morning and intensify this

 
   afternoon. The snow will be heavy at times late this afternoon

 
   through Sunday morning.

 


* Storm total snowfall of 7 to 14 inches is expected by Sunday

 
   afternoon... with the heaviest snow from Rockland to

 
   Painesdale... and north into the copper country. Across far south

 
   and east Ontonagon County... expect 1 to 3 inches of snow.

 


* Gusty northwest winds to 30 mph will create some blowing

 
   snow... especially near Lake Superior.

 


Impacts... 

 


* roads will become snow covered and slippery.

 


* The heavy snow and blowing snow will allow for visibilities to be

 
   reduced to less than one half of a mile at times.

 


Precautionary/preparedness actions... 

 


* a lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake

 
   effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or

 
   impossible.
