>Lake Effect Snow Warning
... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect from 1 PM EST /noon
CST/ this afternoon to 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ Wednesday...
The National Weather Service in Marquette continues the lake
effect snow warning... which remains in effect from 1 PM
EST /noon CST/ this afternoon to 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ Wednesday.
* Heavy lake enhanced snow will develop by early this afternoon as
a strong cold front arrives. Expect the snow to begin diminishing
Wednesday afternoon.
* Storm total snow accumulations through Wednesday of over a foot
can be expected... especially over the higher terrain from
Ironwood and Wakefield to Bergland and White Pine.
* Roads will become snow covered and hazardous this afternoon into
Wednesday. North winds up to 30 mph will produce areas of blowing
snow and near zero visibilities at times in open areas near Lake
Superior.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake-
effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or
impossible. Lake-effect snow showers typically align themselves
in bands and will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several
inches of snow per hour for several hours. Visibilities vary
greatly and can drop to zero within minutes. Travel is strongly
discouraged. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
