Warning Description: Special Weather Statement
Warning Date: 4:06 am CST on December 1, 2009/
Warning Summary: ...Significant Lake Effect Snows Possible Near Lake Superior
Wednesday Night Through Friday...
Warning Message:
Low pressure currently over the Dakotas will move to the northern
lakes tonight...then merge with developing low pressure over the Ohio
Valley on Wednesday. Behind the low...winds will turn north and
northwest...allowing colder air to move across the relatively warm
waters of Lake Superior. This setup will likely lead to the first
significant lake effect snows of the season for areas near Lake
Superior. Current data suggests that areas favored by northerly
wind direction...such as inland north central Upper Michigan as
well as areas near Ironwood...will see accumulating snow
Wednesday night into Thursday. As the winds turn northwesterly
Thursday night into Friday...all of western Upper Michigan from
from Ironwood to the Keweenaw peninsula...as well as areas east of
Marquette...may see moderate to locally heavy snowfall. Snowfall
will be highly dependent on wind direction...however there is a
potential for significant snow accumulation for some areas by
Saturday.
Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or your local media for the later
updates on this situation.
