I've made the decision to get my ham radio license. I joined a club online where I can get the help if needed and so I can ask questions if I need help. I spoke with a fella that lives down state and camps up here in the western U.P.. He told me to not bother with getting the first license but go straight by it and get my General ticket. His reason being and he's right there isn't very many hams here in the U.P. and I would have very few people to talk to. I should get my general ticket and that would give me more options for different bandwidths where I could find people to talk to. The FCC dropped the morse code part of the license so that should be no problem, but I'm going to work on the code just the same. I'm very excited about all of this. I've always loved radios and cb's and this will help me to find something that will keep me interested. I know a few hams here in Ontonagon but they are pretty much out of things so I have to find someone else around here or in Houghton County to be my Elmer. An Elmer is another ham who will help me get through all I need to get through so I can pass and help get me online and talking.
